China Incom Resources Recovery Receives FDA-C Approval in Food Grade rPET

Aug. 11, 22

On July 19, 2022, Incom Resources Recovery (Tian Jin) Co., Ltd. received a no-action letter (LNO) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), confirming that the production system of "ultra-clean" recycled polyester chips (rPET) has officially passed the FDA audit and certification, which marks the INCOM recycling process level can be used to produce PCR-PET for hot-fill applications.

As a widely used material, plastic provides great convenience for production and life but also poses a serious plastic pollution challenge for the world. In recent years, China has paid more and more attention to plastic packaging innovation and sustainable use, and even the development of the recycled plastics industry chain. The establishment of the "double carbon" target (Peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutral) also brings significant opportunities for the industry to accelerate its development.

INCOM has been exploring the "Bottle-to-Bottle" sustainable recycling model in China for more than 10 years. In 2005, we built a food-grade recycled polyester chip plant and successfully applied rPET to food packaging, realizing the high-value recycling of used beverage bottles. The plant treats 50,000 tons of waste PET beverage bottles annually, which is equivalent to a direct reduction of 105,500 tons of carbon dioxide. In 2008, the INCOM plant became the designated recycling and processing unit for used PET bottles from the Beijing Olympic venues. In 2010, Li Keqiang, who was then vice premier of the state council, visited INCOM factory and convene a symposium on the circular economy, giving full recognition to INCOM's "food grade to food grade recycling" circular model.

In 2010, the "ultra-clean" recycled polyester chips produced by INCOM Factory passed the joint evaluation of the Ministry of Health and the General Administration of Quality Supervision. The General Administration of Quality Supervision Administration of Quality Supervision issued Food Supervision Letter (2010) No. 695 "Notice on issues related to the production of food packaging with recycled bottle-grade rPET pellets", indicating that INCOM recycled polyester chips can be used in the production of food-grade packaging materials.

Relying on the business advantages of the parent company in the field of resource recovery and assisting the whole traceable supply chain information platform, INCOM factory realizes the control of the quality and safety of raw materials. In terms of the production process, adhering to the principle of "removing impurities as soon as possible", the automatic sorting system comes from PELLENC, France, the cleaning recycling process is from the Italian SOREMA, and the extrusion and SSP units adopt the Swiss Bühler technology.

By building the world's leading food-grade process solution, the INCOM plant continues to upgrade rPET food-grade to the food-grade full-cycle industrial chain.

As known to all, Incom Tianjin Factory's parent company, Beijing INCOM Recycling, is the leading company in Sino-Ocean's large environmental business segment. INCOM Recycling has been deeply involved in the food grade rPET industry for nearly 20 years and has always been committed to the cause. We actively promote the development and upgrading of industry standards and continue to export our practical experience in professional fields. To provide global brands with cleaner and safer food-grade rPET solutions, thus contributing to the sustainable commitment and goal of packaging recycling. Now that the recycling industry is witnessing unprecedented development opportunities, we believe that more and more companies like INCOM will become the backbone of the industry's development and even the successful achievement of the dual carbon targets.
